The telegram on the table :: Four levels

Summary-

This story is about an ordinary person Krishna who seeks high ambition in his life. The writer of the story, Parshu Pradhan describes the life story filled with beautiful dreams and luxuries. He has a dream to visit foreign land by a tourist gal whom he used to meet almost daily as being a tourist guide professionally. One night he fiercely woke up as he sees his wife whom he has almost forgotten. All of sudden his eye caught the sight of telegram which was on the table which he had been ignoring time and again. His eyes filled with tears after a while when he heard about the death message of his beautiful wife one week ago. When he first read the letter he was happy as he thought he got the chance to fulfill his dreams. But soon after he realizes that he has lost his life partner. For weeks he had slept there within sight of that message but that night his mind was filled with desire and unwanted connections, thoughts of present and the past all of them in discord.

Interpretation-

The central idea of the story is that,” high ambitions takes family relations apart.it has also revealed the fact that urban life is too much busy life than rural life. Town and cities are just for making carrier but a person can be happy only when he is with his family. And it also tries to reveal the fact that it is not good to ignore even a small thing. Likewise, in the story Krishna living in a city has almost forgotten his wife but in the last his eyes filled with tears when he read the news about the death of his wife almost a week ago.

Critical thinking-

Although this story is a good story which has properly characterized the day dreamer man; Krishna, I am unsatisfied with some parts of it. Can a man forget his family like Krishna does in the story? Doesn’t a man read the telegram when they see it on the table even too much busy? Can a person eye fill with tears when he heard the dead news of their family member whom they have already forgotten?

Assimilation- 

Before reading this story I used to think that high ambition makes a person successful in their lives. A person can be apart from their family in course of making their carrier. But after reading the story, I realized that there is no anything greater than ambitions. A person may die when he cannot fulfill his dream but he cannot live in absence of his family.
